Honour fees

The last two times my account over drew I got a text saying money had to be in by a certain time or

a $10 fee would be charged. I put the money in well before the

time and BankWest still charged

me the $10. The first time I just accepted it but yesterday money was due before 12.45

WST and it went in at 8.30 am and yet I still got charged the $10. I

feel this is very unfair BankWest

I'm really sorry to see this @Bradyleisa, and I can certainly understand the disappointment you have expressed in relation to being charged these fees.

This particular fee will raise on your account, if it has a negative balance caused by a direct debit at the close of business on any given day. The $10 Honour Fee is charged, as Bankwest have paid the debit on your behalf, and will allow you until 12.45pm AWST the following business days to transfer the negative balance back into your account.

If credit funds are not in the account by this time, then the payment is reversed by the bank, and a $10 Dishonour Fee is raised to your account, in place of the Honour Fee.

Via the Forum I'm unable to view your details, though if you would like to discuss this further you are most welcome to call our Contact Centre on 13 17 19. Alternatively, you can log into your Online Banking and select "Message us Now" from a PC, or "Ask Us" via on the Mobile App your screen at any time for further assistance.

Thank you.

I would prefer Bankwest did not "Honour" the debit request if it causes a negative balance resulting in a Bank Fee.

How do I Opt out? because I didn't apply for a credit account when opening my transaction account. Or is it too big a money maker for Bankwest?

Hi @gixxersw, you can prevent this from happening by providing the direct debit merchant with your Debit Mastercard or credit card details instead of the BSB and account number.

If there are insufficient funds to cover the transactions, this will decline and won't overdraw your account/charge the fee.
