Depositing a cheque into a joint account

Good afternoon. I have a question regarding bank cheques. If I receive a bank cheque in my name, can I deposit that bank cheque into a joint account which has my name and my brother’s? Or would the bank cheque need to have both of our names on it?
Thank you

Hey there @allipooley - this is dependant on a couple of things.

Firstly, if the Teller is comfortable depositing the cheque into a joint account, when it's only listed in 1 name. This is because the joint party to the account can then access the funds in their entirety.
Also, if the cheque is crossed as "Non Negotiable", then it does need to be written in the exact name(s) as the account itself.

I am sorry that I don't have a more "exact" answer for you!
