Looking at taking out money from an ATM while in Japan and the USA (Hawaii)
Anyone know if there are preferred banks in any of these two countries while considering the lowest (hidden) fees?
Using a Bankwest Platinum Master Card
Any feedback appreciated
it is my understanding that the bankwest ATM fees + foreign transaction fees are waived on a Platinum card?
Could there still be local transaction/ATM fees and if so, how much? ??
Is it true that a cash advance fee (2% or $4) and immediate cash advance interest charged on the card is not applicable if I pre-load my credit card?
Thanks in advance for any feedback

Hi @ozzie, we don't have any affiliate or preferred banks outside of Australia, and your card should work anywhere that displays the Mastercard symbol. While there are no foreign transaction fees or overseas ATM fees charged by Bankwest to use an overseas ATM, you may be charged by the bank who owns the ATM.
In regards to Cash Advance fee, if the card is in credit of your own money, the fee would be a fixed $2 fee, however if you do go into the credit limit it would be 4% of the amount you withdraw.

is this still in effect?
I have a Mastercard Platinum card.
I want to withdraw ZAR in South Africa.
If I get a positive balance in my credit card account, will, I only get charged AUD$2 ATM fee from Bankwest (and whatever fee the ATM in South Africa charges?)

Hey @jfang, this is still the case. The cash advance fee (ATM withdrawal fee) imposed by Bankwest is $4 so long as the available balance is above the credit limit. Should the available balance drop below the available limit as a result of the withdrawal, the fee will change to 2% or $4 (whichever is higher) and the cash advance interest will apply.
Other banks fees and charges are unknown to us so we're unable to advise as to what these may be I'm sorry.
I hope you have a lovely time in South Africa! If you haven't already, it's always a good idea to let us know of your travel plans.
