Using my debit card overseas

Hello,

Can I use my Bankwest debit card in the USA? Should I select credit rather than savings or cheque when withdrawing money? Am I able to find out which banks will accept my card?

Thanks!

Hi @davmori, thanks for your enquiry.

When overseas you’ll need to be selecting the "Credit" option on your card at an ATM or EFTPOS Terminal, as Savings and Cheque aren't available. There are also a few ATMs that don't accept MasterCards unfortunately, so it's also best to check that you can see the MasterCard symbol prior to attempting to withdraw funds.

You can also take a look at the ATM locator on the MasterCard website to find terminals in which MasterCard is accepted Smiley Happy Just be sure to check for any fees that may be charged by the other bank prior to withdrawing your funds, as Bankwest is not aware of these.

Hope this helps!

Should I use my BankWest Debit card for everyday payments here on holiday in UK?

I seem to have been able to use it for buying coffees, lunch etc today, so it works all right, but will I also later be charged a fee by the Bank for these small transactions?

Hi @sbsykes, thanks for reaching out.

There is a 2.95% Foreign Transaction Fee per overseas purchase, though this is charged at the time the transaction is made.

This link outlines fees incurred by card type - it may help further Smiley Happy

Thanks!
