Thank you for your reply - just to check, I can use my mastercard debit card that i use here over there?
Also, could you tell me the best way to go about getting some Japanese money before I go?

You sure can @geeringj, just make sure you select the "credit" option when you're overseas, as "cheque" and "savings" will only work within Australia.
You can order foreign cash to pick up from Bankwest stores online. You can view the details here: https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/international/foreign-exchange

I am trying to order some cash online as per a link given in this forum
I would however like to collect it from the Miranda branch in Sydney, howeve it does not seem possible to be able to do this.
As I am working full time, I am unable to go in to the city to collec the money. Can you suggest the best way for me to get this cash through travelex?

For anyone planning to go to Japan with your MasterCard, be warned! The Japanese government does not trust MasterCard and I could not find anywhere where I could withdraw money - post offices, banks, currency exchange, ATMs, nowhere!
Be safe and take a Visa card or even better, a chipless card.
I hope Bankwest takes this advice and stops setting up their customers for disaster!
