Getting cash from an ATM overseas

While you may plan to take your cash with you from Australia or only use your cards while overseas, it’s best you’re prepared in case you need to withdraw cash.

Make sure you take you Debit MasterCard® with you and when you use the ATM you must select credit to withdraw from your account. You can withdraw up to $1000AUD in local currency per day.

When you use your accounts overseas you may be subject to fees and charges for certain transactions and withdrawals. Here's a summary to make it easier for you.

Foreign Transaction Fee - applies to each transaction occurring outside Australia. This fee is waived for Bankwest Platinum MasterCard holders (excluding Debit MasterCard).
Overseas ATM Access Fee - applies to each cash advance transaction, balance enquiry and denied transactions using overseas ATMs with a Debit MasterCard. If you have a Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account or Rewards Transaction Account this fee is waived.
Cash Advance Fee - applies to withdrawing cash from your credit card. Interest charges may also apply.

It's important you refer to your account Product Schedules to find out which fees may apply to your specific account.

Ah, but is there a way to waive both the transaction AND atm fee?

Hi @SamsonKein, we don't have any products that wait both fees, however you could avoid them by taking cash with you (so you dont have to withdraw from an ATM) and then have a Bankwest Platinum Mastercard credit card to make purchases because the foreign transaction fee is waived.
