Card blocked overseas with no reason or warning

I let the bank know in advance where I was going overseas and when but today I was unable to pay for an airbnb, pay my Optus bill or even transfer money to another account. There was no warning and I'm quite frustrated. What can be done to fix this? I'm unable to call from Europe.
