DID YOU KNOW... According to the "Economic, Cultural and Social value of Volunteering to WA", volunteering is WA's largest industry by employment contributing over $7b to the economy each year, with 4 out of 5 residents volunteering formally or informally. Let's face it, kids sporting clubs, school canteens & P&C's, local residents groups and most charities could simply not operate without the support of volunteers.
But what might not be that well known as a growing area of volunteering is employer supported volunteering programs. Often, one or more days of volunteer leave are offered to staff to get involved in their local communities, as well as facilitated programs for teams to volunteer together. Along with team days, a big area of focus is around skilled based volunteering, supporting charities through sharing of professional skills, student mentoring programs etc.
Bankwest colleagues have been proudly volunteering since 2010 and in the last year have invested 10,000 hours across Australia, supporting dozens of community organisations.
It's very much a part of our culture as an organisation, so much so with many branch teams heading out in their own time on a weekend night to cook up a meal for the regional families staying at Ronald McDonald House whilst their child is undergoing hospital treatment.
If you volunteer, you understand that it is a great investment of your time, energy and passion - because what's returned to you is so much more in terms of personal fulfilment, skills learned and friendships created. The sentiment is the same from our colleague volunteers and many who have never volunteered before will go on to find an opportunity in their local communities.
So to ALL volunteers THANK YOU, you clearly #givealittlechangealot #nvw18
