@Essie: From reading the subject line, you're making the deposit using a Bankwest Smart ATM.
For cash deposits made at a Bankwest Smart ATM, these funds are instantly cleared and available in your account for use (confirmed in this press release - http://www.bankwest.com.au/media-centre/service-announcements/christmas-new-years-trading-hours-1292..., but no other source material on the BWA website explaining the Smart ATM service - hopefully something @LyndsC can work with the relevant team to resolve).
For cheque deposits, these are subject to usual clearance and processing timeframes.

Thanks @thewinchester . You're correct, any funds deposited in a Smart ATM will appear immediately in your balance and cheques will take 3-5 business days.
@Essie Funds deposited into a standard ATM can take longer, so if you're wanting the funds straight away it would be better to deposit at a Smart ATM or in store.
You can also deposit funds into your account using your card and PIN at an Australia Post store, however I can't guarantee the funds would clear immediately in this case.
