Credit Card Cash Advance in Japan

Hi, I intend to travek to Japan and my credit card limit is only AUD$1000. If I debit AUD$3000 into my credit card account before I travel, and in Japan use the credit card to either withdraw cash from an ATM (as cash advance) or use it for shopping in shops. In each instance, what kind of fees will I be expecting to pay? This assumes that I do not go over the limit of AUD$3000, whether I do cash advance or use the credit card for shopping.

Thanks!

Julie

Hi @JLaser, the foreign transaction fee for purchases or withdrawals outside of Australia is 2.95% per transaction, if you're credit card is a platinum or world Mastercard, this would be waived. When withdrawing from your own funds the cash advance fee would be capped at $4 per transaction, although if you do withdraw from the credit limit this would be $4 or 2% of the transaction amount. Thanks!

Dear LyndsC,

Thank you for your response. Just want to make sure I understand you fully. My credit limit is $1000. I add an additional of $2000 to top it up. (Total credit fund available is $3000). If I withdrew up to $2000, I would pay $4 per transaction regardless of transaction amount, can be as small as $1 per transaction up to the max of $2000 per transaction (for argument sake). Is that right?

If I had used up my own fund of $2000 and continue to withdraw or buy at credit in the shops for the available credit limit of $1000, I would pay $4 or 2% per transaction whichever is higher, is that right?

Thank you! And hope to hear from you again! Julie
